Battlefield 3 cant join server?

ok i go to play battlefield 3 after updating it and i get an error saying "failed to join game. please check your network connection and try again." i even looked through the list of servers and all of them are of the dlc levels and i dont even have the dlc. can someone please help i only downloaded this because me and my friend couldnt join a game together so we figured if we both downloaded it, it might work. please please help!

I had this same problem today, but i fixed it. go to the list of servers, like you already have. you'll notice that all of them are only back to karkand (dlc) servers right? well thats because the list is filtered to only show those servers. so change it to where it shows any map. if you like you can also change it to show every server in the world as well. for some reason, even though im in the eastern u.s., it was only showing european servers. but anyway, change the list's filter to show any and all servers, not just the dlc ones. then try and join a game.Battlefield 3 cant join server?

Its hard to answer your question when I dont know if your playing on PC or console or if you mean joining any game or a friends game, or if your friend joins your party and then you dear for a game. but if its one of the last 2 options and your playing console then you have incompatible network connection. this could be because of internet providers, you have a strict or unstabel NAT type, or your connection or his are at very different speeds. can solve this by going online and forwarding your gaming ports so you have an Open NAT type.
i think there was a error when downloading the updates maybe u can try to update it again if not get a new game or maybe ur internet was lagging it while downloading
